May 3rd Date Set for Annual Youth Rally
HAMPTON, VA: Over 500 youth and families are expected to turn out in downtown Hampton at Uth ACT’s fifth annual Power of Youth Rally. The Hampton youth group themed this year’s rally “Bringing Healthy Back”, and will hold the event on Saturday, May 3rd, in Mill Point Park from 12-4pm. The family-friendly event will include entertainment and informational booths about health issues facing adolescents today.
On stage, The Untouchables dance team will open live performances, followed by feature band Chasing Arrows, and The Other. Throughout the event, guest artist Allen Stephenson will demonstrate graffiti on an 80 foot graffiti wall, and local youth will give Spoken Word performances on the art of leadership. Youth and their families will enjoy a rock-climbing wall, dancing, games, free tee shirts, and prizes. Special guest appearances also include Miss Virginia Beach.
“The Uth Rally is the only event in Hampton created for youth by youth. It is an exciting symbol of the power of youth civic engagement in the City of Hampton. Uth ACT members know the power of diversity and voice in our community. This is reflected in our rally. It is truly an event where all youth in Hampton can come together,” said Shalis Ammons, Hampton High School graduate and former Uth ACT visibility Chair.
Uth ACT (Youth Achieving Change Together) is an after-school program out of Alternatives, Inc. that seeks to increase the voice, visibility, and empowerment of young people. For more information, contact Callie Hardman (757) 838-2330 or chardman@altinc.org.
