First Monart Drawing Studio in Virginia to Open

In its commitment to tap the creative ability of youth and adults Alternatives is proud to present the MONART Drawing Studio.

Leading educators recognize Monart as a way students can learn skills such as:

• Focus and concentration
• Decision making
• Problem solving
• Sequencing
• Eye-hand coordination.

The Monart system of drawing shows how to perceive the visual world in terms of five basic elements of shape. This method has achieved phenomenal results among both children and adults, including those with learning difficulties.

Learning Objectives:
Participants will use the 5 basic elements of shape in a guided drawing experience.
Participants will learn the essential components of a Monart Drawing environment.
The Monart method of drawing allows the participants to discover the creativity within themselves. Drawing is a teachable skill at which everyone can be successful. The Monart system of drawing shows how to perceive the visual world in terms of five basic elements of shape. Just as a musician learns notes and scales in order to play an instrument, Monart students learn the skills necessary to translate their perceptions onto paper. Since 1979, Monart has been taught around the world through Mona Brookes’ best-selling books, through Monart Schools and through incorporation into many school districts. In a noncompetitive, peaceful environment, students learn that drawing is a teachable subject in which everyone can be successful, that there is no right or wrong and there are no mistakes in Art. Public school teachers who use the Monart method in their classrooms report that reading and math levels rise, thus closing the achievement gap. “If a student draws what they are learning, they will learn it 8 times faster and retain it 8 times longer.”
Linda Hansen, Creativity Director at Alternatives Inc. has 30 years experience in the filed of Creativity and Youth Development. She has been trained by Mona Brookes and is the only licensed owner in Virginia by the Monart International Institute.
