Youth Agency Awarded Tobacco Prevention Funds:
Funds target preschoolers in Hampton and Newport News

Hampton, VA- Youth development agency Alternatives, Inc. was awarded a $49,638 grant by the Virginia Tobacco Settlement Foundation (VTSF) to train early childhood education teachers as a part of the VTSF’s statewide youth tobacco use prevention programs.

Alternatives will provide teacher training in the Al’s Pals: Kids Making Healthy Choices early childhood education program in 41 classrooms in Hampton and Newport News. The VTSF grant targets 628 children ages 3-6 presently enrolled in 9 Early Childhood programs. Those programs include: The Downtown Hampton Child Development Center, In Coretta’s Care, Hidenwood Presbyterian Preschool, and Dresden Drive Preschool, Cary Elementary School, Denbigh Presbyterian Preschool, Children of the Village, Eagles Nest Learning Center and Garden of Children.

The mission of the Virginia Tobacco Settlement Foundation is to lead a statewide effort to reduce and prevent the use of tobacco products by youth in Virginia.

Alternatives is a private, non-profit youth development agency founded in 1973. It is recognized nationally as a premiere youth development organization.
