Southern Growth Policies Board Presents Alternatives' and the City of Hampton the 2008 Virginia Innovator Award for Youth Civic Engagement Partnership.

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC - Alternatives' joint initiative with the City of Hampton, the Partnerhsip for Youth Civic Engagment (YCE) was presented the 2008 Innovator Award from the Southern Growth Policies Board on June 1, 2008 in Little Rock, Arkansas as part of the Youth: The Real Future of the South conference. Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe presented Bradford Knight, Chair of the Hampton Youth Comisssion, and Michael Brock, Youth Planner for the City of Hampton, with the Innovator award for the state of Virginia at the opening session of the conference. The conference focused on youth development and engagement, and offered strategies for building policies and partnerships to foster youth leadership skills, workforce readiness, volunteerism, entrepreneurship, and the traits to become active, responsible citiziens.
Alternatives trains YCE participants and coordinates youth opportunitities for volunteerism and service learning in partnership with the Hampton Coalition for Youth and the City of Hampton.
