Community Builders Network
CBN is a coalition of grassroots community based groups that promote the positive development of all youth and encourage youth participation in leadership positions. Alternatives provides training, technical assistance, and serves as fiscal agent for the CBN Coalition. Visit CBN here.
Because of its partnership model of service delivery, Alternatives forms collaborative relationships with early childhood centers, after school programs, faith and community based youth serving organizations, local government departments, and school divisions. In addition, Alternatives’ staff participates in the following state and local initiatives:
Virginia Partnership on Out of School Time VPOST is a statewide initiative to create quality systems of out of school time opportunities for children and youth. VPOST vision is: All children and youth in Virginia have access to high quality, out-of-school time programs that prepare them to be successful in school, work, and life. Alternatives’ staff serves on the VPOST Leadership Council and chair the VPOST Quality Committee. Visit VPOST here.
Smart Beginnings Virginia Peninsula
SBVP is an early childhood collaborative that aims to create quality systems of care and education. The vision of SBVP is: All children on the Virginia Peninsula will enter kindergarten healthy and ready to succeed in school and life.” Staff from Alternatives participates on the Leadership Council, Executive Committee, and Early Care and Education Committee. Keeping Our Kids Safe Initiative
KOKS is a collaborative violence prevention initiative in the City of Newport News to create a safe and secure community for all children and youth. Greater Virginia Peninsula Youth Development Task Force
This Task Force is a network of youth serving organizations on the Virginia Peninsula that support positive youth development by sponsoring conferences and community wide events. Alternatives staff provide coordination of communication and serve as the fiscal agent for the Task Force.
