Auction will take place at 6 pm at the Arbors at Port Warwick on April 4. All proceeds go to benefit the children's visual art enrichment program operated by Alternatives. The auction will feature works in glass, ceramics, textiles, and paper. Noted Virginia painters, like Dan Bartges and Barclay Sheaks as well as photographers, jewelers, sculptures and furniture craftsman will also be up for bid the evening of the auction as well as on-line at www.monart.cmarket.com.Online bidding will open on March 15.
The highlight of the evening however, will no doubt belong to 7 young artists whose art class work will be auctioned. Last year's paintings drew rave reviews and bighearted bids.
Proceeds from sponsors and bidders will go to benefit the Monart Children's Art Enrichment program which reaches over 1000 young people ages 4 – 18 on the Virginia Peninsula who are economically at risk or identified with special needs. The need for Alternative’s programs continues to grow as funding for arts programming and cultural enrichment programs that benefit youth and those with special needs or disabilities is increasingly being cut from state and local budgets.
Monart teaches students the 5 elements of shape and provides a method for them to draw the elements in a way to produce realistic artwork. The method is combined with a philosophy that creates an environment in which students can experiment, learn and feel safe from criticism or critique. Alternatives operates the only licensed Monart studio in Virginia.
